Michael Harren
Michael Harren (Original Score) is a composer, performer, and theater maker whose work explores vulnerability, identity, and human connection through solo multimedia performance. His pieces weave personal narrative, original music, and live electronics into intimate theatrical experiences — a practice established with Tentative Armor (Judson Memorial Church, Dixon Place, 2013–14) and extended with The Animal Show, created during his residency at Tamerlaine Farm Animal Sanctuary and performed nationally. Each project has been accompanied by books and zines designed and published in collaboration with luke kurtis through bd-studios, each zine paired with an original piece of music.
His current work, The Luminiviria Project, examines masculinity, technology, and human connection through live AI collaboration, electronic composition on Ableton Push, and a visual art installation exploring the materiality of data. The project had its first public showing at Judson Memorial Church in February 2026, developed in collaboration with director Kevin Laibson.
Harren has performed at Dixon Place, (le) poisson rouge, Joe's Pub, Judson Memorial Church, and venues across the country. He is also the host of MikeyPod, a long-running interview podcast launched in 2005.
Project Y Theatre Company (Co-Producer)
Project Y Theatre produces new and innovative theatre by diverse voices on a project-by-project basis, with a focus on women and queer artists. We commision, produce and support new plays and playwrights that appeal to an audience interested in such themes as feminism, race, sexuality, technology, family, and community. We embrace experimentation with new forms of technology as a way to connect to and expand our audience, as well as to expand the idea of what theatre is and can be. Over the past 25 years, Project Y has won awards from NYIT Awards, NY Fringe, and United Solo Festival, and has been a frequent “Critics’ Pick” by press such as TimeOut NY, The New York Times, and The Guardian.
